About Dot Matrix Printers

Dot matrix is one of the impact-style printers and was the dominant printing option in the early days of the home computer market before inkjet and laser printing came onto the scene.

Considered noisy by today's standards, and sometimes prone to paper jams, dot matrix printers create print characters by striking pins against an ink ribbon to print closely spaced dots in a recognizable shape.

Although they do not produce high-quality output compared to other printing technologies, DM printers have one advantage - they can print continuous multi-page forms, something laser and inkjet printers cannot do. That makes DM printers a dependable choice for printing label, envelopes, payroll, invoices and other common business forms.
